Incidence and Cost of Autism:

The following is various information on the epidemic of autism including
figures worldwide. The numbers are staggering and the costs are skyrocketing.

The rate of autism in Scotland, one in 166

Financial cost of autism in billions of dollars and pounds in the US and the UK
Increase of autism in 1992-99 in Wakefield, West Yorkshire, local education district was from 5 cases to 111 cases.
The 2001 Medical Research Council review found autism to be at 1 in 166, many times higher than hitherto thought.

We at The Autism Autoimmunity Project note with interest that at last these two organizations have recognized the enormity of the problem facing our Nation and are now reporting that
1 out of 6 children are diagnosed with a developmental disorder and or behavioral problem and that 1 in 166 children are diagnosed with an autism spectrum disorder.

Increase in Finland

Intriguingly, two pertinent and serious public health issues did occur in Finland during the 1982-1996 period. The fact that they are rarely mentioned should raise questions about the motives involved.

a) A 300%-increase in Crohn's disease between 1986 and 1991 (17)

b) A striking rise in the incidence of autism in the Northern Provinces between 1991 and 1994, with a cumulative
 incidence in the 5-7 age group of 20.7/10,000 or > 1 in 500 (18)

Presently, another major pediatric health problem needs explanation and attention. Finnish children have the highest
rate of type 1 diabetes mellitus in the world. (19)

In Canada's Province of Quebec the number of children with pervasive developmental disorders in schools increased
by 63% in two years, from 1388 in September 2001 to 2267 in September 2003 according to the Ministry of Education
of Quebec (C La Haie, fourth international medical conference on autism, Montreal, November 2003).

Lastly, in Saudi Arabia (population under 23 million) there were 42 500 confirmed cases of autism in 2002, and
many more cases remain undiagnosed.

From the Autism Society of British
Columbia...........

The incidence of autism spectrum disorder is estimated to occur in as as many as 1 in 160 individuals and is four
times more prevalent in boys than girls. Autism knows no ethnic, social or economic boundaries. The prevalence
rate now places it as the third most common developmental disability - more common than Down syndrome.

A new Australian study has found a surprising number of children are autistic.

The Autism Council study reveals about 17 children are diagnosed with autism every week in Australia
.

From South Africa.......

The incidence of autism is radically on the increase worldwide and is now considered to affect 1 per 158 children
under the age of 6 years.

http://www.occupationaltherapy.co.za/Text/AutismSA.htm

Based on statistics from the U.S. Department of Education and other governmental agencies, autism
is growing at a rate of 10-17 percent per year. At these rates, it is estimated that the prevalence of
autism could reach 4 million Americans in the next decade.

As is clear from a growing number of studies, the incidence of autism is rising at a fast clip in the United States and
across the globe. This means that families and communities across the world are facing similar challenges in educating
children with autism and/or other special needs.

In an effort to address this reality, a joint China-U.S. Conference on "Educating Children with Special Needs" is
being held in Beijing, China, on
June 14-17, 2004. The keynote speaker for the first-ever event is the Honorable
Robert H. Pasternack, Assistant Secretary of Special Education and Rehabilitative Services, U.S. Department
of Education.

states, DC and PR will be in the 138,000 to 145,000 range.

The Cause of Autism:

The measles-mumps-rubella (MMR) vaccine has been noted in connection to autism in clinical science done by
Dr. Vijendra Singh and Dr. Andrew Wakefield.

Detection of Measles Virus Genomic RNA in Cerebrospinal Fluid in Three Children with Regressive Autism

Bradstreet, JJ, El Dahr, J, Anthony, A, Kartzinel, JJ, Wakefield, AJ.

Many parents like myself know that too many vaccines at too early an age, is driving this autism epidemic.  Not
only are the viruses and bacteria like measles, rubella, mumps, pertussis, tetanus, etc. are dangerous and can
cause encephalitis but such additives as thimerosal, aluminum, formaldhyde, etc. are toxic. Two families at Eric's
school told me that after their children with autism received the hepatitis B vaccine, they developed diabetes. This
is very disturbing.

We are dooming a whole generation of children to long-term disabilities and chronic illnesses because of mandatory
vaccine policies that do not take into account that babies can have adverse reactions to vaccines. We need to stop
the madness before it reaches a point of no return.
